Is it better to do weight lifting immediately before martial arts training or some other time?
I have a lot of time at my disposal, but I’d rather train BJJ from Mon to Sat, with Sunday being an off day. I’m doing Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. Should I do this (or any) routine immediately before martial arts or some other time?
You should never lift weights immediately before doing martial arts. Most weight routines contract the muscles, making them shorter along with lactic acid build up and stiffness and soreness especially at the joints and insertion points. In martial arts you are doing a lot of extension type movement along with putting a lot of stress on the areas that can least accommodate it which is the joint and muscles at the insertion point. It is better to have at least a few if not several hours of rest in between or do your strength training after martial arts. You will more easily avoid pulls, strains and tears if you have adequate rest and/or do weights afterwords.

How can you tell if a martial arts training school is good, and not just a school for kids?
Like a training school for Adults, and how can you tell if the instructor is a good instructor?
Also, what is the best martial art style to learn?
And if anyone lives in Nashville or Clarksville, TN, or maybe even Hopkinsville, KY, do you know any good places to learn?
Thanks.
I mean more Flippy kinds, like Asian style stuff.
On a road trip from Madison, WI to Birmingham, AL, a friend of mine and I stopped at a dojo we had heard about – Nashville Aikikai.
It is an Aikido school where we showed up un-announced and watched a kid’s class before we attended advanced adults class.

Are There Any European Martial Arts Training Schools in Staffordshire?
I stress the European, so please no answers involving Asian Martial Arts. I’m looking for somewhere which offers training in things like classical fencing and sword fighting. If you can find one, please can you find somewhere where I can get the necessary equipment?
hello,
no, not specifically. around your area you might find "sword fighting meetups", but that is about it. most of these will have training in a weapon oriented system related to filipino systems (jeet kune do has a presence over there).

What do I need to do to prepare myself for martial arts training?
I’m not an extremely active person, so therefore I’m not extremely fit. i’m a female, 5′4”, 138lbs. like i said, i’m not exactly fit, but it wouldn’t take very much to get me there. I would be starting martial arts for the first time and have no idea how to start preparing myself for classes, or even if i have to. Should i do stretches? Weight training? Do i need to?
any suggestions would be great thnx =)
In my experience, the martial arts classes I joined always adapt to the total beginner. I just attend and just try to do the exercises whenever I have time. you will need the guidance of the teacher if you are a beginner. but be wary of some exercises being done by some advanced practitioners, when I was in highschool, some of my classmates used to perform fancy exercises they have seen from some movie. some beginners got attracted to join in. just enjoy your class & what you do. never stop learning.
